Coach Jeb Clark: Wrestling Shout-Out

Coach Jeb is retiring from coaching after 12 highly successful years at PHS.  Here are some highlights. 

Athletes of the Week: February 16, 2024

Boys Wrestling: Colton Theobald - Colton battled back from an injury that left him off of the mat for 6 weeks. Colton wrestled his 1st match back from his injury 3 weeks before the state finals and on Feb 17th he won his 3rd High School State Championship.

Girls Basketball: Cheznie Roundy - As a team leader of the Region Champion basketball team, Cheznie is averaging a double/double on the season. That means she averages double digit points and double digit rebounds. She is an example to the team of working hard. 

Boys Basketball: Kamika Wesley - As a team leader and captain of the basketball team, Kamika has been a rock for the team and a steady foundation that the coaches can build game strategies on. His leadership stands out and makes a difference on the court.

The Athletes of the Week are sponsored by the Payson/Santaquin Area Chamber of Commerce and Menchie's Frozen Yogurt.  

The Athletes of the week this week are the swim girls relay team that have not lost a relay event this season. The girls on the team are Avery Bulkley, Alex Mobbs, Haley Bott, and Maisey Preece. It is an amazing feat for a team to go undefeated heading into regions. Congratulations to the girls team and to each athlete individually for their performance.

Drill - Ellie Wilkerson: She was nominated because Ellie is an extremely hard worker.  She doesn’t just put in the work at practice but at home too. She is always positive and gives 110% in everything she does. Ellie also is a straight A student.

Cheerleading - Kaylee Fratto: She was nominated because Kaylee has been the positive voice of the team these past weeks. She has been tireless in her encouragement of her teammates and really helped build our team spirit this week! That is important as they head to their state competition. 

Indoor Track Records!

We had several school records broken for Indoor Track last weekend at BYU. 

Denver Spanheimer BROKE the boys school record for the Indoor 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.55. 

He also BROKE the school record for the Indoor Long Jump at 20' 9.5"! 

Ethan Kimmel BROKE the boys school record for the  Indoor 2 Mile with a time of 10:31.11.

Regan McKenna BROKE the girls school record for the Indoor 800m Run with a time of 2:32.85.

Boys Basketball Live Tonight!

Cross Country: Footlocker West Regional Race

Cross Country took 15 runners to California for the Footlocker West Regional races in December this year. Each race had hundreds of runners from all over the Western USA.

All of the runners ran well, representing Payson High with pride!

  • Halle Nielson took 35 in the 9th grade girls race.
  • Reagan McKenna finished in 29th in the Senior girls race.
  • Ethan Kimmel finished in 20th place in the Senior Boys race.
  • Joaquin Cardenas finished just outside of the medals in the Sophomore Boys race.

Cheer Team Took 1st Place!

Congrats to our cheer team! On Saturday, December 2, they took FIRST PLACE at the USA Regionals.

Coach Marilyn Morgan said, "We are so excited because I took a risk and entered us in the most advanced division, so winning first feels really good going into our UHSAA Region and State and then USA nationals!"

We're proud of  you, Lions!

Athlete of the Week

This week's Athletes of the Week are recognized by the Payson/Santaquin Area Business Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Mountain View Hospital and Mountain Star Healthcare. 

Female Athlete

Presley Ryan - Volleyball. The volleyball team hosted a state playoff game, and this is the 1st time this has happened in PHS history. Presley finished her senior year leading the Lions in all that she does both on and off the court. This year she has 271 kills, 36 blocks, 44 aces, 157 digs, and 21 assists all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
