Recently, the HOSA club got down and dirty with real cow hearts. With scalpels in hand, HOSA members sliced up the two fresh (and still slightly warm) hearts and explored each valve, ventricle, artery, and vein.

Spirit Bowl 2010

The Spirit bowl is not a dish containing salad, soup, or extraterrestrial spirits. It is a room filled with Passion, Energy, Love, Hate, and Camaraderie. It was an unforgettable time watching students like Hershel Clinger and Brady Terry cover their faces with peanut butter, Sam Kid, Marin Geissing, Louie Kaufsi, Gary Gaskell, and Nathan Womack downing shakes that resembled puke, passing life savers with toothpicks, and Mr. Blake’s very disturbing dance moves. The stakes were high, and emotions elevated.   I even got booed out of the gym by my own seniors for acci

A slight push from behind, a collision of shopping carts, a weeping woman in the corner, and suddenly, chaos erupts. The aisles of Wal-Mart are jam packed with bargain shoppers of craziness. There is no courtesy. There is no love. It’s the day after Thanksgiving: the first official day of holiday shopping. It’s Black Friday, and this year, I wanted to experience it firsthand.

The Girls are Bawlin' Basketball

Coming into a season with little senior leadership sometimes poses difficulties for a basketball team, but not for the boy’s basketball team at Payson High School. The team that doesn’t have a senior on the roster has jumped out to a great start in the 2009- 2010 season. The Lions are showing that they are a force with wins over Union and Dixie. The young lions are really flexing their muscle especially on the offensive side of the ball. By the numbers the Lions are shooting just under 50 percent from the field this season and a scorching 36 percent from behind the arch.

Congratulations to Robert Scott for being selected to the 2009/2010 Utah High School All State Orchestra. He auditioned to be a member of this prestigious instrumental group several weeks ago and was one of the only bass players selected state-wide. Bob’s love for instruments doesn’t stop at the bass; he’s also played percussion with the Marching Band and in a Percussion Ensemble. “I didn’t even find out I’d become a member of the Orchestra until they announced it that morning. I’m really excited

‘Tis the season for service and giving and there are many ways to take part in the true spirit of Christmas. For example, Payson High’s National Honor Society has donated their time and effort through Sub for Santa, serving at the Food and Care Coalition, and caroling at the local Beehive home. At the Food and Care Coalition, NHS members sung carols in addition to serving food.
