Feb. 4th- 8th was the famous Spirit Week here at Payson High School. The theme was Nintendo and for each day, the students dressed up in “Wii” sports and resort wear, Yoshi green, and flannel representing Moo Moo Meadows from Mario Kart Wii. Everyday at lunch, students went into the main gym to play Super Smash Bros., dodgeball and volleyball. Competition was as intense as it would be at a sports event, and the students spent the week reaching for first place in all the games to earn points for their grade.

The New Sophomore Starting Varsity Player

Submitted by katie.kelly on

Now that basketball season is among us, a lot of changes have been made that could be for the good. The basketball team’s starting lineup consists of all seniors...with the exception of one sophomore. Although the sophomore is the oddball of the starting line up, his height fits right in. Samuel Mitchell is a 6’3 shooting machine who now starts varsity. This seems to be a pretty nerve wracking change for such a young player. The man himself describes his experience.

Let's take a moment of silence to remember the lives of the chickens that were lost last night as Payson High School invaded Chick-Fil-A in Spanish Fork for an epic evening of fundraising. If you mentioned PHS at checkout, Chick-Fil-A would donate 15% of your check total and give it back to Payson High School.

Mrs. Searle, who teaches Digital Media and instructs Payson’s DECA club, is expecting twins in February, so the Lion’s Roar Newspaper threw her a blue themed baby shower on Jan. 17. The team wanted to make sure they partied with her before Searle left. Students in the party planning committee wanted to give her a proper party, since she’s not coming back for a while after she has her twin boys. Searle said to her B3 Digital Media and Newspaper classes, “I will probably come back when they’re in kindergarten...I love this teaching stuff.” Mrs.
