January 23 and 24, Payson High School had its second Challenge Day in two years. From the makers of MTV’s show, “Challenge Day” this year’s Challenge Day was run by two instructors, Randy Fortes and Katie Salvage.
The agenda of Challenge Day is to help people open their eyes, and realize they aren’t the only ones with a particular problem in their lives.
The Payson High School Social Studies Department recently held an essay contest in conjunction with President’s Day entitled: Who was or is the greatest American? The purpose of the contest was to generate increased awareness in American history, and showcase good writing. Winning essays topics included such American greats as Martin Luther King Jr., George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson.
PAYSON, Utah — Payson High's Clint Bateman, a quiet, unassuming young man that lives and works on Utah’s largest dairy farm, is also one of nine seniors from Utah nominated for selection to the McDonald's High School All-American team.
Bateman is the fourth-best assist man in Utah, averaging 5.5 assists per game to go along with 18.8 points per game.
However, getting to this point hasn’t been an easy ride.
PAYSON — What started out as a defensive struggle on the basketball court between Payson High School and Ogden High turned into an offensive showcase for the Payson Lions, who won 71-56. At the end of the first quarter, however, the game was deadlocked at 12-all.

That time of the year is upon us once again; The wrestling season is coming to a close, and the PHS wrestling team is looking to do some work in state. Payson has had dominance in the state tournament these past couple of years, and also a long history of success in state as well.
Brenda and Leticia Trujillo are the basketball twins of the Payson Lions Basketball team. Both girls play on the sophomore team and are excited with all the improvement they have made this season so far. Although it might be hard to tell them apart on the court, they are very different players.
“I have the hardest time telling them apart when they are on and off the court, I will catch myself calling Brenda Leticia and Leticia Brenda, they both are just so happy to be in practice every day, I just can’t help but confuse them,” said Coach Tona Graff.
To celebrate Payson High School’s 100th year anniversary students were entertained by the talents presented by their friends and fellow peers at the annual student Talent Show. While it is easy to appreciate the performances we view, sometimes we don’t recognize the ingenuity, hard work, and deeper personal significance our classmates use to plan and practice for the show. These are the stories behind a few of the performances.
Eric Shelley, sophomore boy who sang “Shake it Off” by Florence the Machine, reveals the big secret to preparing for a performance.
Payson High School’s drama department put together yet another fantastic performance, Arsenic and Old Lace, a classic and phenomenal old comedy.
Mike Birchett of Admiral Plumbing was the Payson High School, Windows on the Workplace presenter for December 2011. Birchett, a Master Plumber, is the owner of Admiral Plumbing, Heating and Cooling, in business since 2001.
Birchett shared his love of learning with the students and said the most important thing to do, if interested in a career in plumbing, is to get a good education.
