Mayor of Payson and Educator

PHS Class of 1948

Richard Harmer graduated from Payson High School in 1948. After college, he returned and taught math and social studies at PHS for many years. During his years at PHS, he also was an assistant football coach under head coach Jim Durrant, and helped coach the team to two State Championship Titles, 1969 and 1971. In addition, he served three terms as the mayor of Payson, UT, most recently from 1990 to 1993. He also served on the City Council during the 1970s before becoming mayor. A long-time educator, Mr. Harmer was also a member of the Payson Fire Department for many years.
