Educator and Assistant Superintendent
PHS Class of 1977
Scott’s roots run deep in Payson. Not only did his grandparents and parents graduate from Payson High School, but he also graduated from PHS in 1977. After graduating from PHS, Scott went to Rick’s College for one year. He then attended Brigham Young University where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Scott began his career teaching elementary education in Nebo School District and was a state science specialist teaching other educators throughout the state how to teach “hands-on” science to young people. Scott was chosen to attend the Leadership Preparation Program at BYU where he earned his Master of Educational Administration degree. After graduation from the Leadership Preparation Program in 1993, Scott was offered a position as assistant principal at Payson High School. After several years he then became principal of PHS. While there, he was honored to receive the “Utah Principal of the Year” award from the Utah Association of Student Councils.
In 1999 Scott was asked to be the Coordinator of Student Services for Nebo School District. After several years in that position, he was assigned to be the Director of Secondary Education. As Director, he was responsible for all secondary schools in Nebo. He was also on the board for the Utah County Academy of Sciences for many years and was heavily involved in the Brigham Young University/Public Schools Partnership Program. Scott became the Assistant Superintendent of Nebo School District in 2010, a position which he held until his retirement in 2021.
Scott loved working in education and believes that education is the foundation of our democracy and a cornerstone for the success of young people. He feels very fortunate to have interacted with many students, faculty, and staff throughout the years. His life has been richly blessed through those experiences.
