PHS Prom 2011: All You’ve Ever Dreamed

Prom 2011 has come and gone, but what a week to remember.  The senior Prom Queen and King were Tiara McCloud and Aaron Dalton.  The girl attendants were Stephanie Hazelet and Jessica Uresti.  The boys were Ramiro Salazar and Cameron Beckert.  Junior prom King and Queen were Zach Eddington and Summer Simmons, and Sophmore King and Queen were Kaleb Wright and Grace Heaps. 

Students Win Big at Annual Ken Garff Assembly

            At the annual Ken Garff Keys to Success Assembly held May 2 at Payson High School Ashley Rowley was award an Apple iPad, and Seth Thompson a $2,000 scholarship towards his college education. The assembly came as the culmination of the year long Ken Garff Keys to Success program run every year at the high school.

On the 29th day of April, various students of Payson High School put on a talent show for the entertainment of the student body.  The first act was Dementia, a rock band that played a song with a really long title about a drink with a floaty and drinking it because your friend is watching.  Jordan Wood then came out to sing and play “100 years.” Will Parson entered the stage with a hilarious guitar song “Most Beautiful Girl” that he dedicated to a girl he saw at The Home Depot.  Katelyn Olson dazzled the audience with h

PHS Has an Earthquake Preparedness Plan

Recent earthquakes like those in Japan, have made many of us begin to wonder, how safe are we?  We’ve all been hearing for years that Utah is long overdue for an earthquake. Regardless of if or when it strikes, preparation is key.

PHS Career Day 2011

Tuesday April 5, Payson High School had a different kind of assembly. Instead of the normal prep rally, we had Career Day. Twenty presenters from the community met with the students of Payson High School to share how their education prepared them for success in the workplace. These presenters ranged from a massage therapist to a helicopter pilot, a banker to highway patrolman.

PHS Crystal Apple Award Recipient Kaye Moos

The Crystal Apple Award is a very special award given to one teacher once a year in one building, given to a teacher exhibiting excellence in his or her teaching. This year’s Payson High School Crystal Apple Award recipient is Mrs. Kaye Moos. This is her 20th  year at Payson High School teaching sewing, child development, preschool, and adult roles.

For the next year at Payson High School the class officers for seniors are: President Zach Eddington, Vice President Hillary Frampton, Secretary Missy Jensen, and Representative KD Apgood. The Junior Officers are: President Brandon Peterson, Vice President Shantell Smith, Secretary Caleb Crump, and Representative Maygan Straight. The Sophomore Officers are: Shelby Blauer President, Kaila Birchette Vice President, Calli Jensen Secretary, and Zeb Evans Representative.

PHS Latinos in Action Wins Big

 Payson High School’s Latinos in Action club and 41 other schools attended the LIA conference on March 17 at the UVU. Our LIA club took first in a competition against 27 high schools of coming up with a business proposal on how they would improve student’s transition between high school to college. 

PHS: Under the Influence of the Hypno Hick

April 8 was the annual Hypno Hick, and this year I actually got up on stage along with many other Payson High students. The audience was ginormous because everyone knows how awesome the show is. The best word I can use to describe my experience is different. I definitely wasn’t like I usually am, which is unlikely to draw attention to myself. But up on the stage, I just didn’t care what anyone thought (obviously, because I scratched some guy’s feet and then rubbed my nose). It was actually really fun.
